As always, it is so good to be with you today to challenge you, encourage you, exhort you, and motivate you to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ right where you are to those who are not believers in Christ. Even though we will share some instructions on how to witness for the Lord from time to time, we believe that most Christians do not need to learn how to witness for the Lord, they just need to go and do it; so our aim is more motivational than instructional.

Our soul winning passage from the Word of God today is Jude 1:3 which reads: “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”

Our soul winning quote today is from Matt Slick. He said: “Apologetics is not the power of God to salvation; the gospel is. In fact, apologetics without presenting the gospel has less value, because if you silence a person God may be vindicated and even glorified, but it doesn’t mean the person is saved. The gospel is what saves, and apologetics is the servant of the gospel message.”

Our soul winning devotional is part 85 of our series titled “What Evangelism Is” from the book — “Evangelism Is…: How to Share Jesus with Passion and Confidence” by Dave Earley and David Wheeler.

Dave Earley tells the story of how several years ago, he was sharing Christ with a man in a park in Dover, England. As the man sat on his park bench, he smiled a smug little smile and said, “Well son, I think going to heaven is a lot like going to the post office in this town. There are several ways to get there from here, yet regardless of which way you take, they’ll all lead you to the same place. It’s like that with religion. You may take Christianity Street, and your friend may take Buddhist Boulevard, and someone else may take Hindu Road and somebody else Islam Road. As long as you all are good and sincere, they’ll all take you to heaven. All religions are basically the same.”

Is he right? Are all religions basically the same? Do they all point to the same God? Are they all paths leading to the same destination?

Whenever the subject of religion comes up in public settings, tension often arises. Many people will ask:

• What makes Jesus so special? How can you say He is God?
• All religions are simply different paths up the same mountain.
• All religions have only partial truth. They need to be combined to get the complete picture.
• As long as people live a good life, no matter what they believe, they will go to heaven.
• It does not matter what you believe as long as you are sincere.
• We should tolerate the views of others even when they differ from our own. To say Jesus is the only way to heaven is wrong because it is intolerant of those who believe differently.
• Right and wrong is a matter of what is right and wrong for you. One religion or another doesn’t matter. What does matter is finding the right belief system for you.
• Religion is religion. All religions are basically the same. So what’s the big difference?

Peter encouraged us to know why we believe and to be ready to share it properly while carefully showing gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15 says, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
