Dr. Graham Walker announced his resignation as President of Patrick Henry College on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in an all-campus meeting in Townhall. Dr. Walker has served at the College for eight-and-a-half-years, named to the post following a unanimous vote of the College’s Board of Trustees on Monday, April 3, 2006.

“The Board and I have simply decided that sometimes it is best to agree to disagree, in a healthy and amicable way as fellow servants of Christ,” Dr. Walker explained. “It is a fully mutual agreement.”

He thanked Chancellor Mike Farris, Provost Gene Edward Veith, and Executive VP Carl Schreiber for their leadership. “I love PHC, “ he added. “I deeply value my brothers and sisters on the Board, and I love all of you—students, faculty and staff. These eight-and-a-half years have already been longer than the tenure of the average American college president! I am grateful to the Lord and to all of you.”

Dr. Walker’s wife Lindy Walker also gave words of farewell. To the students she said: “I hope you will remember that we loved you, listened to you, counseled you, prayed for you, taught you… We are so thankful to have had these years!”

After his announcement at the campus meeting, Dr. Walker led in two worship songs, with Mrs. Walker at the piano in Townhall. One of the songs was sung at Walker’s Installation as President in 2006: “I’d Rather Have Jesus.” Walker concluded by encouraging all present to “keep your eyes on Jesus, because when we look at Him we see the Father.”

Trustee Board Chairman Jack Haye said, “Under Dr. Walker, the College secured accreditation, expanded the campus, and deepened the academic and spiritual dimension of PHC. I should also state for the record that his departure does not result in any way from any moral or financial misconduct on his part; of course no one who knows him would ever think so. His ethical and moral character are above reproach.

“Dr. Walker was instrumental in ‘institutionalizing’ the vision that PHC’s founders had when the College began in 2000,” Haye added. “His extensive experience in higher education led to the creation of systems of protocol and governance that will continue to benefit the College for years to come. We sincerely thank Graham and Lindy for their years of service and leadership at Patrick Henry College. We wish them the very best as they begin this new chapter.”
