The third gathering of the Reconciled Church movement was held in Orlando, FL, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. The meeting came at a poignant time when church leaders in Baltimore, MD, are trying to heal a community torn apart by racial strife over the death of Freddie Gray, a young black man who died under mysterious circumstances while in police custody. His death led to an outbreak of violence and rioting in Baltimore on Monday night.
At the close of the gathering, T.D. Jakes, said: ‘I speak to you as a flight attendant on a plane going down. If we don’t pull up fast, America will crash.’
Jakes was joined by Harry Jackson Jr., Miles McPherson, James Robison, R.A. Vernon, Jim Liske, and A.R. Bernard. The church leaders discussed ways black churches and white churches can come together to effect what Harry Jackson called ‘seven bridges of peace’ to heal the racial divide in America. Those seven bridges are:
1. Prayer reconciliation events
2. Educational reform
3. Civic engagement
4. Community outreach and service
5. Marriage and family interventions
6. Criminal justice reform
7. Economic development
